In 1998, metalsmiths Karen Christians and Jeff Bowie designed a place where education and community would be united under one roof. This concept is still the driving force behind our mission; to be a forward-thinking organization dedicated to supporting jewelry and metal arts through educational programming that fosters artistic and technical development while encouraging community growth and arts appreciation.
From the first time you walk in the door at Metalwerx, you're a part of our community. By taking it a step further and becoming a member, your annual contribution will further support our dynamic programs and facilities. Memberships help fund visiting artists, events, scholarships, equipment, and much more.
Spend five days with renowned jewelry maker Pat Flynn in an immersive hinged bracelet experience. Learn the ins and outs of perfect small scale hinge making and build yourself a precision box lock mechanism with a snap that will satisfy your ears and your eyes! Some of the teachers are pretty terrible. Be aware not to choose Patrick McMillan's class, you will spend money & time by learning nothing and be INSULTED. If you already chose his class, be sure to ask him give you the materials kit you already paid in your tuition, otherwise, he will keep all of them by himself. Shame on him.

I teach workshops all over the country. You will not find a better run, more well equipt studio anywhere. The level of professionalism of the staff is very high. The student body is well rounded from beginners to advanced. They have local instructors as well as visiting masters. The community of makers in the area makes METALWERX Wonderful and diverse. You can not go wrong taking a workshop, renting a bench or a small studio here, its THAT GOOD.

I really couldn't be more excited to work with such talented artists. The instructors are talented, well studied and such a pleasure. I am taking a 9wk long jewelry class with Avery, and just after the first class I feel like I know so much. I also took a clay metal weekend workshop with Miki (sp) she was wonderful. I will keep a special eye out for her clay matals classes. There is a glow about people who are in the midst of the creative process, that glow is at Metalwerx.

I began taking classes and making jewelry in 1985 and was thrilled when Metalwerx opened their school close to me in 1998. I've taken countless weekly classes and workshops since then. I can honestly say I've never been disappointed. The studio is very well equipped and the staff make sure that the studio has the latest equipment and supplies and in adequate quantity for class size.
The permanent instructors are the best. Visiting teachers (experts in their particular areas) from all over the country give many of the one to five day workshops. They make a real effort to always develop new classes to keep the offerings fresh even for someone like me--never same old same old. Whatever your level - a complete newbie, an expert, just want to learn a new technique or improve on one - Metalwerx is a great place to go.

I always wanted to take a jewelry making class and finally enrolled in an evening class here. I was hopeless at jewelry making, but I really tried. This class helped me realize that I am a 2-D person -- sawing and soldering are not my think. That being said, I really tried hard and was very motivated to make something. I melted a few bezels. The teacher barely gave me the time of day, but the teaching assistant took pity on me and gave me some extra help. They never asked for feedback on the experience. I haven't been back since, but for the right person it might be an amazing experience.
