We donate a portion of the proceeds to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation with each sale of our most popular rowing items. The Rubini family has been making jewelry since 1975. Our original primary focus was Peruvian handicraft imports with a small portion of jewelry fabrication and repair. Over the years our energy and stock has become entirely focused on jewelry.
We repair it and create it. The items that we stock are sourced largely in house where we make many original one of a kind jewelry pieces. We also carry vendor sourced items and a number of consignments items.

We are a family of athletic artists. If you have a proposition, we have a plan of procedure! Jaime Rubini, our owner and loving leader, came to the United States in the 1960s from Lima, Peru to pursue his international rowing (the water-based athletic activity) career with more serious coaching. He wound up training out of Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia PA, where he met his first wife Susan.
Virgilio Rubini, Jaime's Brother, began as our bookkeeper in 2001 and has since mastered the arts of engraving, and watch repair. He is also a jack of all trades and is our Mr. Fix-It for all problems that arise. He has 8 grandchildren and loves the sport of fronton. Joanna Rubini, daughter of Jaime, joined our staff in 1998.
6-9-2022 Hi Joanna, I just wanted to let you know we just got the pendant and it is beautiful and absolutely perfect! It slides on his chain so well and he (and we) are beyond thrilled. Thank you again so much for all of your patience, time and help! 12-6-2021 Hi Joanna, Thank you so much! Received the rings and gave them to the girls this weekend and they were so thrilled with it!
We repair all kinds of jewelry from Platinum to Costume. Most repairs and creations are done on the premises. We are happy to work with gold, silver, platinum, alternative metals, costume jewelry, pearls, beads, and random odds and ends. It is best if you bring in (or send) your item(s) so we can assess it face to face.

As a guy, I don't know much about jewelry stores and their services so finding one that would adjust a couple of bracelet sizes was a big deal. Rubini came up when I searched for jewelers near Old Town North so I went there. Boy what a fun, cool place (anywhere playing the Temptations when you walk in gets my vote) and they know their stuff, are friendly and quick. What a find so thought I would share!

Spoke with the lady over the phone for a ring resizing, she was nice and polite and agreed to do a same day resizing. When I showed up at the store, she greeted me with an attitude with she kept up throughout our interaction. She then claimed my ring was not gold - without even testing it, solely based on how I looked. Therefore, she could not offer the service.
Even though she had already agreed to prior in our phone call! I felt racially profiled cause there was literally no other reason for her to not AT LEAST test the ring. I went somewhere else and got it done where they tested it, proved it was gold and got it resized.

I love my unique and precious ring and so grateful that my husband chose Rubini to purchase it. I just went to have it polished after wearing it a year and we again were greeted by the most friendly family. The jewelry is beautiful and the staff is highly knowledgeable on how to care for the stones. Absolutely recommend!

Absolutely in love with my engagement ring and Rubini's. We wanted to use my great grandmother's engagement ring and received a lot of push back from other jewelers. At Rubini's they were willing to use her ring, but we also found a beautiful estate ring we were able to experiment with and it turned out perfectly! The best part is it stacks so nicely with my great grandmother's wedding band and they worked within our budget the whole way through!

This place is really great for jewelry repair. They fixed a bent prong on an engagement ring and adjusted a wedding band. When I picked up the rings they looked better than they had in years. I don't have a lot of experience in jewelry repair but I was thrilled with the price they quoted. They had a lot of beautiful pieces on display too. So glad I found this place based on these reviews.

Very kind staff! I took my watch in to get it fixed. It was pretty beat up and they had every broken part working again! Reasonable pricing too! It took them only a day to get it fixed which compared to the other places locally is very very quick. 10/10 would recommend if you're looking for repairs or some nice looking jewelry.

The Rubini team is the best. My wife and I got our engagement and wedding rings from Rubini Jewelers. They dealt with our neuroses calmly and made multiple 3D printed models of the engagement ring before making the final ring. The wedding rings turned out beautifully as well. My wife gets compliments all of the time.

I've been going to Rubini for years, and I'm always happy with their service, selection, and work! I have bought jewelry there and had them repair/resize jewelry, and my husband worked with them to make me a custom anniversary ring, which I love. The store is family-owned and run, and their turn-around time on repairs is quick. The selection of jewelry for sale is impressive (and tempting)! Highly recommend!

Update: business owner replied with asinine defense. "a sign that was meant to actually be reassuring to our senior customers. To explain, earlier that day we had a customer who was relieved to be allowed out of his house and into the public. He said he felt like a pariah even though he was healthy, he felt like the message being to sent to seniors was that they were a danger to society and themselves.
When I offered that I wasn't afraid of him and that I welcomed him and was happy to see him in my store, he expressed such touching gratitude that even I cried in happiness for the relief and acceptance he felt." My wife has used this jeweler in the past. She said the owner was pretty rude, but whatever. But the owner has publicly denied the dangers of coronavirus and was willing to misinforendanger the public to prove their point.

I discovered this shop when it first opened decades ago. I bought a large deep purple amethyst and had it set in a pendant for my mom's February birthday. It was an instant favorite of hers. After that I bought other gems and had one-of-a-kind pieces designed there. The goldsmith is top notch. Everything displayed in the store is well chosen. Our family has also had repairs of various pieces of jewelry done onsite-expertly and reasonably. I highly recommend Rubini's for anything jewelry related.

We had my engagement ring re-set and we could not be happier. Joanna was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and worked with us to find something both my husband and I loved. She presented several options but we never felt pressured to buy. The work was done quickly and was really well priced. We will absolutely recommend their work! Before (yellow gold) and After (with rubies added)

We totally stayed here longer than we had to, because Joann's personality is so welcoming and friendly. The jewelry we purchased looks great and the repair was done extremely fast. Joanne even noticed the dents in my ring and reshaped them before we left. We were looking for a trusting jeweler and found it here! Def will come return for this Red Carpet Service! :

I was a rower for ten years and wore an oar toe ring we bought at a regatta in Florida in 2006 for at least ten. When it finally broke on me, I wasn't sure I'd be able to find another. I popped onto Etsy and found Rubini Jewelers (if I had realized it was in Alexandria, I would have just visited from DC in person!) My new toe ring arrived quickly and is gorgeous - obviously a much better quality than my original (RIP). Thank you!

Just wanted to mention how amazed I am with Rubini Jewelers. I seen a picture on Pinterest of a silver hockey stick bracelet. I instantly fell in love with it but settled on the hockey stick ring instead. I live in FL so I had to get it shipped to me. Shipping was fast as I was excited to get my ring. They take great care and pay attention to detail as the ring was so impeccably wrapped and they even put a little silk flower with it : I absolutely love it! Its so unique and suits me perfectly. I will definitely be purchasing the bracelet and the pendant for a matching set in the future. Thank you!

I was referred here by my sister in law, but we have had nothing but trouble with this place. We simply wanted to get my engagement ring re-sized and engraved and have had to go back to this place FOUR times. They got the size wrong the first time and second time. Then when I picked it up again, I found that there were indentations in my ring from where they clamped it down!
Also because mine is a white gold ring, the plating wore off from their work, and it had a very yellowish sheen. This is normal of white gold, but NOBODY told us at the shop and we had to call back when I noticed the yellowness in natural lighting. They then re-plated it and tried to correct the dents they made in my ring. However, I can STILL see dents and scratches, and it looks like the plating was not very well-done. What's worse, every time that they have "finished" their work, nobody ever called us to tell us it is ready to pick up.
They took down our number incorrectly, but even after we made sure they had the right number, we didn't hear from them unless we were the ones that called. This means that we have just had to wait indefinitely for the ring, and make time out of our days to contact them constantly. The whole experience with them has been extremely frustrating and stressful, even though they have been apologetic, and have been nice to try and re-do the work, it has taken up so much of our weekends these past few months.
As this is my engagement ring, I do not want there to be so many imperfections - I wear and look at this ring every day. I do not think this place is very professional. We are taking this ring elsewhere just to not deal with them anymore.

Update: I've never changed a review before so I hope this gets reflected properly. I am changing this to 5 stars because I returned and got my ring corrected in size. Which by the way I would like to say a big THANK YOU for! : Not only was the issue correct free of charge, but it was explaining to me as to why my other rings felt a little different and she still offered to change it even more for me.
I definitely saw returning to this establishment as an option, but now it's an absolute must for any work like this I need done in the future. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Unfortunately I am delayed in this review, but am leaving this now as I finally have a chance to sit down and type this up. I went to see them 3 weeks ago and I must say that they are extremely friendly, courteous and quick with their work which was greatly appreciated!
And they do have some beautiful pieces. However, I am leaving only 4 stars instead of the 5 as one of the items I left with them was not properly done. I had a ring that I wanted sized up. When I tried it on it was definitely more snug than when I initially took it in. I didn't think too much of it then as my fingers do tend to swell on hotter days, and my other rings that I had on also were a little more snug.
So I figured all would be well when my fingers were back to normal. Unfortunately the ring seems to definitely have been sized down to a smaller size than the larger one that I asked for. It is still wearable so I haven't looked into getting work done on it again right this instant, and I also worry that as it is an older ring, it may not be good for me to keep resizing it and mess with the material too much. Though I am at fault for not saying something while I was there I am sad to find that it seems the work that was done on my ring was the opposite of what I requested.

If I could give zero stars for this place, I would. I had high hopes for getting custom jewelry but was let down by the lack of professionalism and performance. On the telephone and via email, I was told they could make what I wanted without a problem but problems were all I encountered. I wasn't looking for anything exquisite, just sterling silver and gold filled shepherd hooks for earrings in a certain size.
I went to the shop with a sample of what I wanted and they photocopied it for comparison. They also took measurements which were wrong, so when I returned to the shop two weeks later the shepherd hooks were not the size I wanted. I gave them another chance to get it right, and waited three additional weeks but no one ever called or emailed to pick up the hooks.
When I went to the shop, I was told no one was able to get to the hooks but they would be completed. I had absolutely no faith in their ability and received a refund. I would never recommend Rubini Jewelers to anyone.

I had a great experience here! They made my diamond necklace shorter for a very affordable price. They also cleaned and took a close look at my engagement ring. I think her name is Joanna- the woman who works here is amazing! I think she might be my friend now lol. She is extremely helpful and kind. I definitely recommend this jewelers--affordable and great quality!

The father and daughter that work here are the absolute nicest people. I brought a ring and a necklace in to be repaired. Both were repaired while I waited and at a surprisingly affordable price. My ring was missing a stone and the shop had a selection or alternative stones to choose from to replace it. Before I left, they ask to see my wedding ring and cleaned it. I will definitely be back.

Family owned and operated for 41 years. Locations have changed a few times, but they've always stayed in Old Town. 31 years ago they bought the current building and turned the printing press into the Jewelry shop. To cater to the elderly clientele they moved to a "basement location" just a few steps below street level. They specialize in sports jewelry like rowing jewelry, ice hockey jewelry, and field hockey jewelry.
Of course they also have rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pendants, chains etc. They "Specialize in Everything." They will replace watch batteries, take out links, and do amazing engraving as well. This boutique store is 5/5 stars for a reason, they treat their customers right.

I came in here to resize my engagement ring, and cannot say enough about about Rubini. Not only did they resize my ring in the same day, but they handled it with great care, walked me through everything, answered all my questions, and had such a reasonable rate compared to other jewelers in the area. Definitely recommend without hesitation!

I popped in here to get the prongs on my diamond ring tightened. They did the job in 5 minutes and charged $10, which is a good deal. They didn't clean my ring, though, which is something other jewelers usually do when I have the prongs tightened (unfortunately, a four-prong solitaire setting lends itself to a need for frequent tune-ups), but I guess for $10, I can't complain too much. Update (3/3/2016): I went back to Rubini to get my diamond ring reset from a four-prong to a six-prong setting.
They did it very quickly, did a nice job, and the price was reasonable ($250 for a new platinum setting). They also measured my finger and I found out that I am a size 4.5 rather than a 6, so I got my ring resized as well!

Went here to get links taken out of my watches (3 of them) owner is super nice and charged me $15 for all of them to be done. Other places in old town charged $30+. Plus their dog who just paces in the store (small store, HUGE old dog) was the SWEETEST and once he was done getting his pets in just laid down out of the way of customers. Very cozy place!
