Services
The story of Steiner's Jewelry really begins with a boy and his love for bicycles. The year is 1934 and 15-year-old Ted Steiner has made quite a reputation for himself as the neighborhood bicycle wonder in San Francisco. Having a knack for being able to take a bike down to its parts and reassemble, Ted's hobby soon blossomed into a strong repair business.
Steiners Jewelry offers complimentary jewelry cleaning and inspection. We recommend bringing in your daily worn treasures at least twice a year, more frequently is better, to ensure that your jewels sparkle, and the diamonds and gemstones are secure in their mountings.
When you walk though our doors it feels as if you've ventured away from downtown San Mateo and transported to a quaint Parisian boutique off the Champs-Elysees. So there's no need to jet set to escape from your daily routine. Stop in and browse our collection, try on diamonds, sapphires, or gold, or let us pamper your ring and make it sparkle. There's even a play room to occupy your lovely kiddos while you play, too.
The first diamond engagement ring was presented to Mary of Burgundy by Archduke Maximilian of Austria, in 1477, when diamonds were considered to have magical powers relative to love, purity, and fidelity. Ever since that historic proposal, the breathtaking and durable diamond has become the enduring symbol of love.

First class service not high pressure/top shelf items and fair pricing. They are not your mail jeweler nor are they your Burlingame Ave high mark up set - I've purchased multiple pieces from them and can't recommend highly enough!

I've known all about Steiner's Jewelry for about 13 years now. The owner (M) is a very nice man and full of knowledge. They have a beautiful selection of Jewelry and while some comments complain about pricing being too high, remember. QUALITY over QUANTITY. I do know for a fact that Steiner's goes for ONLY THE BEST (just my personal experience) and they've even cleaned some rings that mean a lot to me which was a nice bonus.

I know a few Jewelers from San Francisco, and they've all know about Steiner's and have said nothing but very positive things about them due to them carrying only quality pieces. Sure you can go and get a diamond for a lot less, but who the heck knows what kind of quality is behind that diamond or how many flaws exists. Thanks @ Steiner's for serving Downtown San Mateo.

It's years after Steiners would not honor the price of a replacement bracelet he agreed upon, nor refund the $800 down payment placed. At first he wouldn't even give the cash deposit back. But I pleaded and he allowed that. He would not provide the replacement for the original bracelet (Bought there!) at the price he agreed upon. He said gold had gone up.

But no agreement to change the price on paperwork was ever mentioned. It was several months between final pick-up as I had a battle with beast cancer. But this did not give him the right to bully me. Only one price was on the receipt with no terms for any changes or cancellation. Today, I miss the only piece of Jewelry my husband bought for me that I am missing.

It was only $1800 total price which really indicated how greedy the Steiners male owner is. I just couldn't afford it then, I'd been sick. But this man had no compassion and couldn't even live-up to his own deal. I tried to leave amicably after her gave me the deposit, but I still lost out due to his greed and dishonesty. I was exhausted from all the phone and in-person arguing.

A reputable Jewlers would never treat a customer like that. I recently bought something at Tiffany's Inc. Ha! It was a wonderful experience compared to this selfish peddler at Steins. Karma. I would probably have bought with you again, as I got my 5-year anniversary ring at Steiners. In retrospect, I wished I'd never gone there. I hope you don't.

I have a watch I would like to bring in to be serviced but they are closed. Their sign says they are open 11 to 4 Tuesday through Saturday and it is 2 o'clock in the afternoon on a Thursday and they are closed.

I am so moved and thrilled with the customer service and knowledge from Mike at Steiner's. I can not say enough about Mike's personal service and genuine enthusiasm for my project. I have known Steiner's as having beautiful and quality pieces over the years. You would think that they would not be all that interested in something, shall we say, on a smaller scale.

That statement is very far from the truth. Mike and the staff treated me like I was one of their VIP's from start to finish. And the outcome, I couldn't be any happier with my gorgeous engagement ring! Thank you so much!

I lost one of my diamonds from my wedding ring back in 1987. At the time I worked for a dentist in San Francisco, CA but I live in Belmont, CA so one of our patient's Mr. Rabin recommended Steiner's and to let Marsh know that he recommended me to him. The Rabin Brother's once owned Butterfield and Butterfield and the entire family were patient's of the dental office I worked in for several years.

In 1987 I met with Marsh and picked out a new diamond for my ring and was very pleased with his service so just a few years back I brought my grandmother's ring in to have a sapphire placed instead of a diamond so that I can pass it on to my daughter. Mike repaired the bridge of the ring and placed a beautiful sapphire and I was very pleased.

I know Marsh isn't there anymore or has passed on but I feel the service I received was wonderful and I trust them. Marsh was friends with the Rabin Brothers and I know they have passed on too but they were good people and God Bless and keep them always! Thank you for the great service you provided to me and to this day my rings are just beautiful and irreplaceable. TY, TY, TY!

We went to Steiners to pick out wedding bands, and couldn't be happier with both the service and the rings themselves. Michael has been incredibly patient, kind, and available. The whole experience was pressure-free, and was focused on us getting the rings we wanted, not getting the most money out of us possible. Their goal was to earn our business for the long-term, and they've more than accomplished that.

If you are looking for quality and one on one attention, Steiners is the place. If they don't have what you are looking for, they can get it. The Steiners team is awesome. :

Incredible jewelry. I've been shopping with Mike @ Steiners for many years now. Honest and upfront. Not pushy. No salesman pitch. And such an upstanding guy to work with. He's absolutely interested in understanding what type of jewelry you would love or he will help you get there by asking the right questions. The jewelry is top notch as he has ties with various local and national designers. Tons of stuff to look at, lots of options and most importantly a very "family" style buying experience so you don't feel like they're just trying to make a sale. Definitely recommend visiting to become a lifetime customer!

I have been a Steiner's customer for 17 years and they always clean my jewelry the minute I walk in the door, have done repairs without being over-priced, and done custom work beautifully. Highly recommend.

I just stopped in to sell some small, unwanted gold pieces. I was struck by the beauty of the store. It's like something out of a movie! The warm, friendly owner greeted me and handled the transaction. His customer service was wonderful, and I left feeling as though he treated me no differently than he would have a very big spender. I window shopped as he was in the back weighing my goods.

I was pleased to see that the prices were clearly marked on everything. It's nice to be able to settle curiosity without bothering the attendants for every little inquiry.

This is a much overdue thank you to Mike and everyone at Steiners for making my engagement ring shopping experience a treat. I'm celebrating my 9th anniversary today, and while at lunch (at work, unfortunately not with the wife), I was asked if I could recommend a jeweler. Slam dunk - Steiners. And, with that friendly reminder, it's only right to take the 3 minutes to write a review here. - Friendly people every visit (yes, it took me too many visits, but I admit i can be picky) - Very helpful with selection (both the vast amount on hand as well as other options) - accommodating - when the selected ring didn't look how I expected, they went out of their way to both make changes, and my timeline. All in all - two thumbs up, five stars, etc.

Great Jewelry store. My father used to purchase jewelry for my mother here years and years ago. I recently went there looking for an engagement stone, and Mike searched and searched until he found just the right color. The quality is amazing, the selections are modern and exquisite. They are willing to search for what you want, and they will also create pieces from scratch as desired. Go to Steiners. Talk to Mike. He absolutely knows what he is doing, and will make sure you leave the store happy.

I bought my first watch from Steiner's when I was in High School back when they were at the 3rd avenue location. When I needed a engagement ring I saw Mike. He gave me some great advice and my wife loves it (still, after 12 years). I have not felt the need to go anywhere else and probably never will. Highly recommend.

Both my mother and grandmother bought several pieces at Steiner's and had many items adjusted and maintained there. Me? I used to. However, when they moved around the corner to their snazzy new location, they lost all concept of customer service. My first time into the store post-move was to have a ring setting tightened. I walked in, stood at the counter, and waited. and waited. and waited. Nothing.

No acknowledgement from either of the two clerks attempting to make sales to the two other people in the store, and not even a feeble attempt to stop me as I walked out. My second time back, one of the clerks from the original location was working. She helped me immediately and graciously and I thought maybe the first visit was a fluke, but. My third and fourth times back, she wasn't there and I had the same experience as my first visit -- not even a nod in my direction as I waited and I ended up leaving. So, 25% of the time the service was good and 75% of the time the service was less than bad, it was non-existent! Sure, the new space is aesthetically preferable to the original, but consistently good customer service is much more important to me than a few frills.

There are other reputable jewelers in the area that haven't forgotten how to treat people well. I would have given Steiner's zero stars, but since the clerk from the original location is still there, I'll give them one.

I brought my engagement ring here for resizing. Very trustworthy, reputable place. They did an excellent job. Can't even tell it had been resized. My only gripe would be that it took 2 weeks. A long time to be apart from your new ring! The store is very nice and fancy inside. A fireplace offering a warm welcome. A kids room so Mom and Dad can shop in peace. Staff is very friendly and professional.
