Solitaire settings are great if you have a stunning singular stone that has been passed down through the generations as an heirloom, many choose to display it in a classic Solitaire setting. This setting generally allows for the maximum amount of sparkle by allowing light to pass in through the bottom sections of the ring.
Our Four C's of Diamonds guide can help you decide on the most important factors when shopping for a diamond. The word carat derives from the word carob, a Mediterranean seed, which has an extremely consistent weight for measuring. The greater the carat weight, the rarer, and more valuable the diamond becomes.
Some people want to buy the biggest diamond possible. Is this always the right choice? The larger the diamond, chances are the more inclusions it likely has, and because it's larger, these inclusions are typically even more visible than on a smaller diamond. But most importantly, if the diamond cut isn't proportioned correctly, it won't return the maximum amount of light through the top of the diamond. This illustrates that no matter how large the diamond, its cut and proportions determine how brilliant the diamond really is.

I purchased a custom piece of jewelry for my wife from a designer I found online, and my guess at sizing was a smidge off. I brought my piece to The Karat Patch for resizing, and I worked with Emma on the details. She was down to earth, friendly, and answered all of my questions. She ensured that I understood the costs, and that matching a custom piece may not be exact.
She allowed me to break the costs down into half now, and half when I picked the piece up. My time frame was 4-6 weeks, and Karat Patch had it down in less than 3. Emma was there to ensure the ring met my expectations, and that everything we discussed at the beginning of the work order was not complete. Most incredible of all was the skill the jeweler demonstrated in matching the original band design perfectly.
You cannot tell a resizing happened at all. I loved being able to support a local business, and I loved my experience with the staff; with the quality of work; and ease of the entire transaction.

My fiance and I have never gotten custom jewellry before - and we had an unusual request for Parker's. We wanted wedding *pendants* rather than rings. We had a rough idea of our design as our zodiac symbols, Virgo and Scorpio, drawn out to be close to our initials. We wanted to have the zodiac symbols stand out in copper. And we originally thought to have damascus as the base, but realized (with Kristin's help!) that it would be too dark and too weighty. Instead, she suggested silver, engraved with a damascus design - and the end result was truly breathtaking.
The entire process with Parker's, from start to finish, was beyond outstanding. Kristin was both realistic and incredibly helpful, the staff were amazingly friendly (Emma and Jamie are so sweet!) and as you can tell by these pictures, the jeweller and engraver here is an ARTIST. Not to mention that the price was well within our budget and very fair!
We even got to add secret messages to each other engraved on the back (to be revealed during the wedding!), and Kristin was very careful to keep them a secret! I cried when I saw our pendants - these are more beautiful than we could have even imagined - they were exactly what we had in mind, and even shinier than that! Thank you so much to Parker's for treating mine and my partner's love as if it were your very own. This is a truly special place. I bought a stainless steel and diamond men's bracelet online. There needed to be two links removed from the bracelet so that it would fit my narrow wrist. After visiting multiple major national chain jewelry stores, I was discouraged to find that none of them had the knowledge, tools or experience to remove links that didn't already have removable pins in each link.
My extensive online search led me to Terrence, the Master Jeweler at Parker's Karat Patch Jewelers. He asked me to text him pictures of my bracelet and explain what I was trying to accomplish. He encouraged me by stating that he had the tools, expertise and strength to remove these unneeded links for me. I took it into their store and their ultra helpful and friendly staff helped me.
Later that same day, I received a text that my amended bracelet was ready for pickup. Their pricing was very reasonable and fair. While I was in their store, I saw so many beautiful pieces of men's and women's jewelry on display, that I'll return when I'm ready to purchase additional jewelry pieces. Jamie helped me with everything for my engagement ring for my fiance Jessica. Jess built out the ring in the store and I came back unknowingly to her and bought the ring which was awesome. Jamie had the ring saved and pulled it right up and gave me pricing. Jamie Kept me up to date with the time frame of the building of the ring and it looked amazing. My fiance loves her ring and so do I. We will definitely buy our other two bands from them when the time comes.

11/29/2019 We moved to North Asheville two years ago, and have driven by Parker's Karat Patch numerous times without ever having cause to stop in. About a month ago, my wife noticed a broken prong on her (40-year-old) diamond ring. We prefer to support local businesses, so we took it to Karat Patch, and they were wonderful; explaining exactly what needed to be done and why and how.
When we went to pick up her ring - which was done perfectly - we thought about having some additional work done. Kristin was absolutely incredible; offering help, guidance and suggestions. We had several older pieces and wanted to do something useful with them. My wife and I both wear necklace medallions with our late daughter's fingerprint etched into them.
We had our daughter's engagement ring, and my wife wanted to somehow use that diamond to wear on her fingerprint necklace. Kristin designed a pendant that went on the chain, and looked just beautiful. That diamond from our daughter's ring had originally belonged to my wife's mother, so my wife will have a part of both her mother and our daughter close to her always.
We had two additional family heirloom diamonds, and we discussed how they might be used in a more contemporary piece. Kristin suggested that they be embedded in each of our wedding rings. A completely novel idea. Kristin went over all of the options and possibilities. I can only say that the design and execution turned out to be exceptionally beautiful.
We cannot be any more pleased with the outcome. I can't say enough about Kristin and her entire staff. The knowledge, professionalism, attention to detail and the premium put on customer satisfaction are all outstanding. After we picked up the rings today, Kristin later called us at home to apologize for being out to lunch when we came in, and to make sure we were pleased and satisfied with the end result.
We are beyond pleased; we are absolutely thrilled! I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for; and the cost relative to the entire experience, in my mind was a bargain. I won't say it was "cheap", but no corners were cut and to us the finished products are priceless; both intrinsically and sentimentally. I don't see why we would ever have any reason to take our jewelry needs elsewhere. Thank you, Kristin; and the entire Karat Patch family!

I took my Movado watch to these people to find out if it needed a battery or something more as it had stopped running. They were quick to tell me the watch needed a $250 repair and then offered to buy it from me for $250. I was insulted and left with my watch in hand. I took my watch to John Laughter Jeweler to have them look at it. Lo and behold my watch only needed a $20 battery, not a $250 repair! I will never step foot in Karat Patch again. Beware.

My husband recently had my engagement diamond reset in a brand new custom design at Parker's Karat Patch. Kristin Laughter and her staff were extremely knowledgeable and competent through every aspect of this redesign process. They were able to take our ideas and present us with a beautiful custom design in a very reasonable amount of time. Once we settled on the design they built my ring and set the stones perfectly. The employees at Parker's Karat Patch are very well-educated when it comes to jewelry and repairs. They have always been of great assistance when it comes to fixing jewelry. During the holiday season they will let you exchange an unwrapped child's present (to donate to charity) for a unique jewelry gift item--it's great that they care so much about giving back to their community.
