When founder Ron Spivak first opened the Hawkins House in 1977, Jimmy Carter was President, a new car cost $4,785, a loaf of bread went for 36, gas was 65 a gallon, and Vermont had more cows than people. Over the past 40 years a lot has changed, but one important thing has not changed - Hawkins House's commitment to the community providing exceptional quality handcrafted jewelry, crafts, unique gifts, and customer service.

In the mid-1990s, Ron and his wife Inga Spivak set the stage for a "second generation" of owners for the family business when they hired their daughter-in-law Elizabeth Ganger.

Very good customer service. It made me proud to buy and support local. They also have a great watch service that is very reasonable. There was a small issue do to a misunderstanding on my part. The women who work there are very rude and unfriendly and not helpful at all. They have nice jewelry but a bit overpriced if you ask me. Whenever I go in a feel very uncomfortable and not welcomed by the staff and that your bothering them by asking to see an item. And it's every occasion that I have been in the store not just a one time occurance.
