In some cases - the more freeform designs - old gold will generally work very well. In other cases, new, refined gold is necessary, but client's old gold can offset the cost.

Theresa is an amazing artist and goldsmith. I went through jewelers school with her and have followed her work through the years. I respond here to the 1-star review. First, you gave her a very short time frame, then forced her down in price. If you think you stressed that you wanted the bracelet oversized, she clearly didn't hear you, she did what any jeweler would do - she made it fit.
When she offered you to hammer it out to stretch it, that was not an offer to destroy your piece or make it ugly. A hammered finish is beautiful. Please google it and you'll see what I mean. I only worked as a bench jeweler for a few years, but I know talent and perfection when I see it. Theresa has it. You were clearly asking too much. I constantly think of having Theresa make something for me and one of these days I'll find the money to do that.

We had a silver island hook bracelet sized for our granddaughter. We brought our granddaughter in to be measured. I explained that I wanted the bracelet sized a little bigger as she could grow into it. I stressed this at least three times during our conversation. Theresa measured my granddaughter and as she was measuring around her wrist, I indicated that I wanted the bracelet sized big enough to slide down to the widest part of her hand without being able to slide off.
As we were talking I complimented Theresa on her necklace. It was a beautiful sliced diamond necklace. Theresa brought out a couple of necklaces, however, I wanted to get done with our business at hand. I explained I would like to have the bracelet within a couple of days and Theresa said she didn't think she could get it done but would make an effort.
The cost was at first $60, however, when I stated that my budget for this was $50, Theresa agreed to take $50. Theresa had the bracelet completed within the time aloted. My husband picked it up and when we went to put it on our granddaughters wrist it just fit, which was what I did not want, I wanted it slightly looser. When we contacted Theresa and explained, she was stiffly put off and told me that we had two options, she could hammer the bracelet out leaving marks or would charge me extra to make it bigger.
As this was not my mistake but hers, as the 'expert', whom we paid for her expertise; I take offense to this approach. I do not feel I should have to pay more for a mistake not of my making. I would recommend Nunez Jewelers for any repairs.
