I purchased a diamond ring from Mangan Jewelers and a pair of diamond earrings. Both pieces are very unique and get many compliments when I wear them. They have a nice selection of estate jewelry in addition to many unique new jewelry items and prices are great. I have yet to find anyone who can compete in quality and price.

Great experience! i only needed a couple of batteries changed, but Mr and Mrs Mangan were friendly, attentive, efficient, and fairly priced. i havent bought a lot of jewelry since courtship days, but their display cases were enticing. I'll be back!

It is the lowest level of building. It is very small place. But the lady who assisted me was very sweet. I came here to have my pearl necklace to be tighten. I needed to get screws for earning. They did not have 18 carets and they didn't have them. They ordered them for me. Everything got them done with a week. I am very pleased with their customer service.

For 20 years, I'd been holding onto a bag of loose gemstones from a late relative in the gemology field. It was time to declutter. Since they were a childhood gift, I suspected the stones wouldn't have much value, but wanted to get a professional opinion. After searching for gem appraisal services in the area, we set up a consultation with Mangan Jewelers in September 2019.

During our session, Tom gave us his undivided attention and identified each individual stone with meticulous attention to detail. Tom provided the utmost in friendly, honest, and quality service. We would highly recommend him for your jewelry, gemology, and appraisal needs.

An incredible, trustworthy jeweler that makes you feel at home and comfortable. I am in my late 20's with no experience with jewelry, especially engagement jewelry. Tom helped me through the entire engagement ring purchasing process from appraising a family heirloom, to picking out the perfect new setting and polishing the final product. Tom explained the process very thoroughly and answered all of my questions and concerns professionally.

Tom Mangan came highly recommended by a friend of mine who knows and owns very valuable antiques. By contrast, I am clueless. While my few precious family jewelry pieces were probably far from the most tantalizing items Tom has ever seen, he was completely patient and thorough in his evaluation -- and offered an education about how he was assessing my heirlooms, as well.

I left with a check and fewer heirlooms, which was the general idea. Tom had explained on the phone in advance that he wears different hats -- appraiser is different from buyer -- and my goal had been to liquidate what I could. Observing how Tom evaluated the content of my trinkets was fascinating. I gather that Mangan Jewelers is a DC-area institution, serving senators, Congressmen, and justices of the Supreme Court.

While my humble family jewels were probably not in a class with those of many of Mangan's clientele, he never let on. Clearly, he is a dedicated gemologist who lives and breathes his craft, and I appreciate having benefited from his expertise.

Growing up in a family of jewelers I learned to appreciate the meticulous nature and fine craft that comes with the business. When I moved across the country it was hard initially to find a business that I felt I could trust with everything from purchases to repairs and appraisals. Having gone to Mangan Jewelers now for over 10 years, I can confirm that this is hands down the place to go in not only McLean, but the entire Northern Virginia area.

You won't find a kinder staff or more trustworthy team that stands by what they sell you. So often I have brought something back for repairs for something I purchased and Tom Mangan has fixed it without question. Their estate jewelry cases are phenomenal - I mean. it's McLean, you should expect that. Think you can't afford to get someone jewelry as a gift for their birthday or the holidays?

Think Mangan. The big difference between here and other stores is that you get personalized service - someone hears what you're looking for and helps you. It might be Tom or his wife Lin, it might be Sharon who has been there for as long as I can remember. No matter, you're in good hands. And as of January 2019, it will be by appointment so it's really going to be personalized.

Went to see Thomas Mangan to get an idea on an old diamond ring. Thomas was patient with all our questions, thorough in his reviewing the diamond and the ring. He is professional and polite; based on our meeting and others reviews seems very reliable. Will more than likely go back to him for some items for sale.

I visited Mangan Jewelers to sell some family rings. I was very impressed both with their professionalism and their customer service. I was given a very fair price for a gold band and for two consigned pieces. They have a thorough understanding of gem and jewelry quality and design, and are certified through the American Gem Society. Their collection of jewelry is outstanding, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a special piece of jewelry.

They even cleaned my wedding band and engagement ring free of charge and it has never looked better! I highly recommend them to anyone looking to consign or purchase fine jewelry.

We were looking for an appraiser and found Tom Mangan on one of the gemological society websites. We were looking for someone within the NoVA area and could do the appraisal in front of us within a reasonable time. Arriving at 6801 Whittier Ave, take the elevator to the ground floor. The first floor start with 200+. You'll have to ring the doorbell and someone will let you into the small showroom of Mangan Jewelers.

Like us, Tom is very soft spoken but he knows what he's talking about when you ask him questions! He'll let you know what he's doing as he's doing it and will ask permission before he does something to your jewelry (e.g. Clean it in the machine for a better look under the magnifying device that he has next to his desk). So polite! I would definitely use him again in the future.

I've been a customer of Mangan Jewelers for many years. I've bought a number of antique jewelry pieces as well as a custom made piece. I find their quality of service and merchandise outstanding. They will go above and beyond to ensure that their customers are fully satisfied. They have my highest recommendation.

I took an engagement ring and a pearl necklace to Mangan Jewelers to be appraised for insurance purposes. I arrived a few minutes later than my appointment due to traffic, and they were perfectly understanding. I was very impressed with Tom Mangan's expertise during the appraisal. He was very focused on his work, but did take the time to thoroughly answer any questions I had.

He was perfectly friendly as well, asking if I had popped the question yet and complimented the sentiment behind my engraving on the ring. I was thrilled with his appraisal of both my pieces, each of them coming in well over what I paid for them. It was also nice that he complimented my choices in jewelry, particularly considering my knowledge of jewelry is next to nothing. Tom also submitted his appraisal to Jeweler's Mutual so that I didn't have to deal with it.

Not only that, he still had some work to do on my appraisal when I had to leave, but still only charged me for the time I was there. All in all, the experience exceeded my expectations and I would recommend him to anyone looking for an appraisal (I have no experience purchasing jewelry from this shop, so I can't comment on that). Regarding a review on yelp that gave only 3 stars because Tom didn't take into account a famous designer for an appraisal; to me that shows integrity.

He looks at the pieces for what they are. Adding value to an item based on the designer is subjective, while jewelry appraisal should be completely objective. I believe that Tom Mangan looks at his appraisals objectively, and I appreciated that.

I have a ring that was left to me and I was hoping to see what I could reasonably sell it for. The jewelers who did my appraisal for insurance purposes referred me to Tom Mangan. Mangan Jewelers is a hidden gem (literally, it's hard to find) with lovely, well curated pieces for sale. I showed my my insurance appraisal and Mr Mangan did one of his own as well.

In the end, my brother decided to pay me what Mr Mangan thought I would net in a sale after their commission. I offered to pay him for his time, but he said he'd been happy to help. It was a pleasant experience all around.

I had a great experience here. I brought my watch in to have some links removed. A lovely woman greeted and helped me. She quickly realized that each link had a clasp that could easily be snapped on and off -- no need for tools or a professional. Because it was so simple, she decided that she wouldn't charge me! She showed me how to take the links off and was very helpful. It's so refreshing to see this kind of honesty and service nowadays. It's easy to be taken advantage of when you, the customer, don't know what you're talking about, and it restores my faith in humanity when someone -- be it a jeweler or a mechanic -- gives you an honest answer instead of pretending that there's a problem and charging you to "fix" it. I had a very positive experience at Mangan Jewelers and I'll be recommending it to others! (P.S. In case you were wondering, they charge $10-$15 to remove watch links.)

The owner and staff were nice people. The owner did the appraisal right in front of me and talked me through it. The owner was meticulous (aka "nit-picky") and initially wanted to grade my engagement ring as an SI1 rather than GIA's VS2 rating. I didn't feel that he really appreciated that a custom ring by a very well known ring designer would be more expensive to replace than just the cost of the platinum.

I left feeling like we overpaid for the ring and it wasn't worth as much as I thought it was. Not a great way to feel after just spending so much money on a ring. If you want a very conservative appraisal without taking into account designer or upgraded elements, then this place is fine. If you want someone who can look at the bigger picture then I'd go elsewhere.

I had high hopes for this place after reading all the positive reviews. I went there for a simple watch battery replacement. They scratched the back of my watch! They also damaged the screws. I've had my watch batteries replaced at the kiosk at the mall and they never scratched any of my watches. I would not recommend this place.

Mangan Jewelers provides fine jewelry and a superior level of customer service. My husband and I go there not only for their selection, but their knowledge and super friendly people. Everyone there has always greeted us with a smile and remember our names. From watch battery replacements to charm bracelet repairs to new purchases, we've always been pleased with our experiences and highly recommend Mangan.

I recently had a piece of jewelry appraised by Adele and I can't say enough good things about her and the service at Mangan. She was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly when I met her to drop off the piece, and she even took the extra time to call me later that week with the full appraisal and answer any additional questions as she wouldn't be there that weekend when I picked it up.

The appraisal was extensive (five pages!) and easy to understand, and will make selling my piece much easier. I wish they could sell for me on consignment (they also have consignment pieces) but they won't sell anything they appraise to avoid a conflict of interest. Overall, I would go there again and recommend it without hesitation!

Great service. Was able to let me see the difference between my earrings against a quality/pristine pair. Very knowledgable and friendly. Saw me as a walk in and did not wait long. Learned not to get an appraisal done at the department store and independent jewelers do have better quality

I went here for a watch battery replacement. When I called to confirm their hours, I was greeted with a pleasant and friendly voice and clear directions. The owner was extremely knowledgeable and provided fast and diligent work on my watch. He even notified me of the intrusion points for potential water leaks on my "waterproof watch". & it was only 15 bucks.

The location was a bit awkward, and only maybe 30 square feet inside with limited inventory. But while in there I heard countless phone calls to people notifying them of their jewelry being complete and available for pickup etc, so they are definitely not hurting for business. I recommend them for future business.

When we started seriously shopping for my engagement ring, we went to several places in DC, MD and VA. I relied heavily on Yelp reviews as well as a Washingtonian Article from a couple years ago. The Washingtonian had interesting insights about Mangan Jewelers, noting that their diamonds are on par with Tiffany's but the Yelp reviews were mixed.

We decided to give them a try. Initially we were looking for a loose diamond and then would figure out the setting after finding the diamond. We worked with Sharyn who was incredibly patient with us as we requested more and more options to review. We were probably in the store every weekend for several weeks in a row. Turns out "the one" was sitting in the estate jewelry case!

When I initially spotted it, I inquired of the cost. It was outside of our budget range. The store owner called the ring owner and worked out one heck of a great deal on the ring. It was meant to be and we are so appreciative of the time they spent with us and the value we got with my ring. We also purchased our wedding bands from Mangan. Once again, Sharyn was patient as we decided on styles.

My husbands ring didn't fit so after the wedding they exchanged it for another size at no cost. I also had my grandmothers diamond watch cleaned and refurbished through Mangan, which turned out beautifully.
