The Chin Dynasty started with Ssu-ma Yen, who ruled from 265-289 A.D. As an emperor, he was called Wu Ti. This Chinn Dynasty, however, started in 1934 when Hughlette Chinn, Gayle's father, established his 1st store in a bedroom in their Highland Park home. Gayle describes him as a born mechanic who began fixing pocket and wrist watches.

Chinn is going out of business and claims they are running 70% off specials, but after going there they up charged all of their items, even the custom jewelry to maximize payments for each item. Much of it is picked over, but they still have quite a bit of inventory left. I have always wanted to go in and check it out, but I stunned at how exorbitant their price was before and still afterwards.
I could get the same genuine diamond rings with white gold for 1/2 of the price a chain store. As I walked through and looked at their displays and the tag it was evident to me they weren't really trying hard to get rid of anything, but rather made me feel like they were hoping I was a fool walking in thinking their blow out going of business sale was something special.
It was so not. I walked out of there feeling somewhat violated and as if they were making a fool out of me with their inflated pricing. I think it's a great time for them to retire.

For being an established family jewelers in Royal Oak for so long, we were so disappointed by the customer service. I was treated rudely by the gentleman and then did not get the service I requested. I brought in a medal to be engraved and the lettering was so small. We asked about the poor engraving we were told by the person, "I am not a mind reader" so I didn't know what you wanted.
Then I suggest you don't do the service if you are not confident of the job. We left paying for the service and not even an opportunity to correct the mistake. We would never bring our service here nor we would recommend the business.

I Just moved into the Royal Oak area and needed some engraving done on a very short notice. The staff greeted me nicely as soon as I walked in the door: I know I was asking for a lot, to get engraving done that day for a birthday gift. They had work ahead of mine, and promised it in 3 hours, but in 1 hour I got a call, and had finished it even sooner! I got there and the lady had beautifully gift wrapped it for me an no charge! They were awesome, thank you!

I would not recommend Chinn Jewelry. My husband and I are new to the area and looking for a jeweler to take our rings to. I needed to have my wedding band & engagement ring sautered again. When we walked in, we were not greeted by anyone. It took a good 5 minutes before anyone stopped what they were doing to come and ask what was needed. I was very specific on how I wanted my rings done and expressed that to the gentleman.
When we came back a couple days later, they charged our card before we even saw the ring (our mistake in not waiting) and when we did, we were very disappointed. They did not sauter the rings as I asked. They then argued with us that it was the only way it could be done. They didn't try to make it better. Clearly all they did was place the rings on a size bar and done!
Since we did not trust them, we kept the rings and took them to a different place. We were treated much better, and they understood and perfected how the rings should be. If you are looking for a jeweler that only will deliver perfection, this is NOT the place to go.

This is an amazing family business. My parents went here. I go here. They have tons a beautiful jewelry. Many of it made in Michigan. Engagement rings, other rings, watches, necklaces, bracelets, estate jewelry and earrings. You can get just about anything repaired here. They do engraving. I go here for my watch batteries. They carry a line of Irish / Celtic jewelry right from Dublin.
They are always very friendly and helpful. Please support this local family business. This isn't one of those chain stores. You will find quality, unique products here. You won't be sorry.

Ive been a Chinn Jewelry customer for almost 15 yrs. The one on one customer service is by far the best you will find. I like when you walk in the door everyone says hi to you and are ready to help in anyway they can. If they don't have a certain item you may want they will get it for you. The prices can not be beat. It's a family ran business & that makes me trust them even more. If you want quality, great prices, & the best customer service then Chinn Jewelry is the store you need to go to.

My daughter wanted to buy me something special last year for Christmas. I also live on the other side of the state and we don't get to see each other very often. She knew that I wanted a Pandora Bracelet. She happened into Chinn's and was told that the Reflections line was just like Pandora. Well, it's not and the Pandora charms I purchased did not fit the bracelet nor did the Reflections charms fit on the Pandora Bracelet that I purchased.
Plus one of the Reflections clips she gave me was defective and fell off and was lost. The jewelry shop was rude to my daughter when she tried to return it and only gave her a fraction of what she paid. I think much better customer service could be found elsewhere!
