The Jewelry Judge is the home of the Nations Professional Jewelry Appraisers and Gemologists. Unlike your local Jewelers, here at the Jewelry Judge, we don't buy or sell jewelry. Our only job is to appraise your jewelry in front of you, "while you watch". We are not jewelry buyers so we remain completely impartial. Established in 1989, we still don't buy or sell jewelry.
As Certified Professional Appraisers, all appraisals are as complete as they can possibly be, including a photo of your item on each of the individually itemized computer generated documents.

Since its inception in 1989, The Jewelry Judge has grown to be the leading network of elite jewelry appraisal professionals throughout the United States and Canada. Honesty and integrity were the foundations for the first Jewelry Judge Appraisal lab opened by Mr. Barry Block in 1989 in Long Island, New York.
Question: I have found a way to purchase quality jewelry at a wholesale price. It comes with an appraisal, and is certified. For example, my first purchase was a genuine sapphire and diamond necklace and earrings set appraised with a retail value of $3,150. I purchased the set for $219.80. I am interested in selling the set for profit.
If you're planning on purchasing a diamond, you should spend some time learning about the "Four C's" - the value factors of a diamond." Color, Cut, Clarity and Carat Weight. Most know little about these quality pointes. If someone were buying a new car, they'd know what kind of engine they'd want, whether or not leather upholstery was in the cards or a costly CD/GPS system or fancy wheels fit their budget.
First, you should have a jewelry appraisal to find out what their current replacement/retail value is. That way you'll know what you have and what to expect. The jewelry industry is a "credit" business. Jewelers buy their inventory on credit. They may buy $10,000 worth of jewelry and issue promissory notes, paying the manufacturer $1,000 a month over a 10 month period.

I couldn't be happier with Barry's work. A world-class jewelry appraisal with a local footprint/vibe. Top notch service and process. I really appreciate the fact that he does not work with jewelers and serves up a pure un-biased appraisal and report. I will be using Barry for ALL jewelry and watch appraisals going forward. If you recently bought an engagement ring and want to certify versus the documentation you received with it, go here. A true master. Thank you Barry!

I had the best experience with Barry at the Jewelry Judge! I went to the Jewelry Judge a week ago and I would highly recommend this location. The entire appraisal process is done right in front of you in a comfortable setting. Barry was beyond helpful and honest through the process. He had me hold my GIA certification while he looked at my jewelry to make sure the paperwork matched. He went through everything throughly and answered all of my questions. I will be returning to the Jewelry Judge for all of my future appraisals.

So glad I found this thorough and honest jewelry appraiser in Princeton. Located right off Nassau street with ample parking. Top notch professional job and results were available in pdf so I could easily file them away online. I've never trusted appraisals by jewelry stores, especially if they're trying to buy or sell me something. Always better to get an unbiased 3rd party appraisal. Couldn't be happier and will definitely use again.

Barbara Nevius did an excellent job in judging and appraising the jewelry in my mother's estate. Very professional report, reasonable fee for service. Highly recommended. She also assisted my son and daughter-in-law in evaluating their engagement ring. Again, an excellent report for insurance purposes.

We had our engagement ring appraised here today. Barry was nice enough to see us earlier than his regular scheduled hours. I was really impressed by his wealth of knowledge. He was able to match our GIA report and took the time to explain everything about our ring. He answered all my questions and was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

After a ton of research online about how best to sell a diamond ring for my mother, I decided that getting an appraisal first was the best way to begin. We decided to visit Barry Block in Carle Place. The prior reviews were excellent and going with an independent appraiser made sense so much sense. While I was hopeful about the appointment, I was guarded about the process.
That is, until we got to meet Barry. His experience and knowledge was apparent from the onset, and his personality made it that much easier to communicate. You could see that jewelry is in his bloodlines. He walked us through the full appraisal process, with an explanation of the rating of the main diamond in the ring, clarity, color, shape, and what the real value of the ring should be, not an inflated or deflated number based on the influence of a retailer or an insurance company.
The detail of his appraisal, with helpful comparisons to previous diamonds, settings, and rings he has seen help us full comprehend what the ring was realistically worth. Barry sells no jewelry (the real reason you know you are getting an independent appraisal) but was able to help us put us in touch with someone who does auctions. We are able to get a great price on the ring!
Without Barry's experience and help, we would never have gotten a honest appraisal nor the direction on how to best accomplish the sale. Both my mother and I highly recommend Barry to all who wish an independent appraisal!
