After 72 years as Philadelphia's leading retail jeweler, my family made the decision to close the Jack Kellmer Company stores forever. Once the announcement had been made, we were overwhelmed by the sentiments shared by our clients, both old and new.

My wife went to this store with two expensive watches that were to be repaired. She was also in the market for a necklace--and possibly a watch as a gift. The woman wouldn't even let her in the door! She said, and I quote "well, what do you want?" and when my wife replied with the above, she said, we don't do that and sent her away. Absolutely inhuman treatment! No excuse.

My only experience with Jack Kellmer was my first serious boyfriend, who worked there in 1968 gave me a lovely Star of David necklace to honor my conversion to Judaism that year. In 1970 I wore it proudly as my only piece of jewelry on my wedding day. My wedding ring actually came from my husband's uncle who owned a jewelry store on Columbia Ave near Broad St, as did the rest of my jewelry.
However I always treasured the Star of David, as it was my first piece of "good" jewelry. Unfortunately, a long time friend stole it from me when he stayed in my apartment for a few months. Yet KellmerJewelers will always hold a special place in my heart despite my loss, and I wish them every success as they continue their family's legacy
