This web site is the online presence of Magpie Jewelry and Metals Studio LLC. We hope it gives you a taste of what our studio is and what we have to offer. This site is a portfolio not a catalog. We may or may not have any particular piece you see here as the images represent over two decades of work.
I started making jewelry professionally after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1985. I continued my education by working in a custom jewelry store for the next fifteen years. In the year 2000 I was blessed with the opportunity to open Magpie Jewelry and Metals Studio with my friends Kristen Fogtman-Faust and Terese Millmann.
We are happy to represent a number of fine artist and jewelers. This enables us to offer a much wider selection of jewelry, objects and artwork than we otherwise could. Ann Marie has been doing art fairs for over 20 years. She feels upon close examination, everyday life can be extraordinary. It's the hidden humor, duality, and mischief in daily life that inspires her sculptural jewelry, infusing it with surprise. She has worked on a wide range of unique handcrafted jewelry, from necklaces to earrings and rings.

My wife and I worked with Christopher to have wedding bands made. We ended with very simple rings, which we love. But getting there, Christopher was extremely helpful and guided us through the process. Along the way, we also purchased earrings and a bracelet from Kristen to be worn for the wedding. We are very grateful to Magpie and would highly recommend them to others.

Highly recommended. I purchased a custom engraved gold wedding band from Chris at Magpie and had a wonderful experience. I gave him an idea of what I wanted (theme of the ring, images I liked) and he crafted them into a composition that spoke well in ring form. He was kind and seemed to care a great deal. There was an issue with the order of the band from the gold supplier, but Chris stepped in and made it right. Chris does excellent work and I would definitely recommend Magpie to a friend. Plus the shop dog is cool.

My fiancee and I where ecstatic when we heard there was a custom jewelers in the village after getting recently engaged. We are both Tosa/Enderis people and where extremely excited to start the custom engagement/wedding ring process with Magpie. We discussed a custom made engagement ring with Christopher. We were extremely prepared and knew the types of designs/diamonds we liked.
We even brought pictures as well. After 2 weeks no design or communication. We (my fiancee) called and Christopher who indicated " I was just going to send that information with a design over today." Days and days when by with no communication. On a side note, we would of been fine with a call stating a delay, but still radio silence was just unprofessional. 5 weeks passed and I called him and got the same story.
It appears that there similar stories on here. I'm not a big fan of posting bad experiences, but this was supposed to be a great and exciting time/event and it was terrible process and a complete waste of our time. Take your business to David Lista (downtown) who was awesome to deal with and has award winning designs.

My wife and I stopped in last fall. Nice shop with very nice handmade jewelry. I was looking for a ring. I like different asymmetrical looks. I think the guy was Chris we dealt with and settled on a type of ring somewhat open design that he would come up with and would email the design for my look see. Two months later. Nothing. No design, no email saying thanks but no thanks. Nothing.
So I go online and use the Contact Form and give a gentle reminder, Hello remember me? Nothing. Again. Now normally this would have been the nail in the coffin but I really liked the guys work so I call. Hello remember me? Oh, wait, let me think? Were you that guy? Ring. Design. Email? Yup. Busy and all. Wasn't sure you still wanted the ring? Yup. I'll get right on it and email the design.
Two weeks. Terrific. Look forward to seeing what you come up with. Nothing. Again. Again. That was January. Nice enough guy but his business sense sucks. Add an extra nail or two. Life is too short.

I love this jewelry store. It's refreshing to be able to purchase high quality jewelry that has been hand crafted by amazing talented artists. I have always been treated kindly when shopping there and they provide great customer service. This is definitely my go to place when looking for a new piece of jewelry.

I've had two custom jewelry pieces made with two different artisans here, and couldn't be more pleased. I brought in gemstones we had purchased in Sri Lanka, and I had them mounted to give as gifts for the Chief of Staff. She gets lots of compliments, they're both original works of art, the craftsmanship is excellent, the turnaround time was reasonable (a few weeks), the pricing moderate and fair. Terri and Chris have rather different styles, I can't recommend one over the other. I liked the work so much, I just dropped off two more jobs.

This store carries some really interesting and reasonably priced jewelry. The staff is very friendly and they have a great dog wandering around! This is a great place for browsing. I got a ring re-sized and it took a few weeks (quality places are popular, I guess) but it was very affordable and perfectly done despite ending up 2 sizes smaller.

Unbeknownst to me, my fiance, Matt, was working behind the scenes for months with Chris, one of the jewelers at Magpie to design a unique, original sapphire and white gold wedding/engagement ring for me. The ring is literally one of a kind, and the jeweler even made several "practice" rings to show Matt different style options and possibilities. The end result is amazing, and the customer service made the whole experience that much better! Matt had no clue about my ring size, and happened to guess right, but Chris offered to modify the ring in any way at no extra charge just to ensure my happiness with it overall. Check this place out!

I stopped in here last Saturday because I thought my wedding ring (not purchased here) might need to be re-sized, as it had been severely irritating me for a few months. I forget her name but the female staff (I forgot her name - feel bad) was very kind and instead wound up doing some grinding inside the ring to soften sharp points. She was very careful in insuring I had a great fit. I've been wearing it for five days and now and it feels great.
I was only charged $10. Most items on display I saw were in a very modern style. There was a good amount of diversity within that and some pieces of art too. Interesting place to browse.

Magpie is by far my favorite jewelry store. I have brought in many small jewelry repairs, and they do a wonderful job for a very reasonable price. The shop is small but is filled with lovely jewelry from a variety of artisans. I have been happy with every piece, and this is a great place to purchase gifts. The location is wonderful.in the midst of great Tosa Village shops (between Heinsight Leathers and Bartalottas, across from Le Reve, Blue Lapin, D'Oro, etc) This shop is a must-see!

I love Magpie. I have gone here for years. Just stopped in this morning on my way home from the Farmer's Market. They design the coolest jewelry you have ever seen. They also carry other lines of unique artists' jewelry. Recently they sized my husband's new watch in less than five minutes, no charge. Chris re-sized my wedding solitaire for such a low price, I can't even remember how much that was.
They fix all sorts of jewelry. They will custom make any piece you desire. Terri is very friendly and helpful. I love their dog, Ruby, who roams around the store freely looking for attention. I definitely recommend Magpie to anyone looking for unique jewelry and a pleasant experience.
