Glass Beads have been in our life for millenia. Since Glass beads were means fo trading and were used to show a person of stature in society, they become intricately woven into our world. Native Americans used beads as an ornament and many beautiful works of art can be found adorning clothing worn on certain occasions. Most Beads used were tiny glass seed beads and were sewn into the clothes to ba e part of the actual fabric structure. Bone and different materials were also applied to accent the look.
Glass beads maintained a high price in the trade and used to trade for furs and other products. As you can see, glass beads are NOT a new idea ! I think we still use jewelry and beads to identify the more "elite" in our society. Have a look at the movie stars and musicians who use jewelry to show their abundance.

Handmade Art Glass beads have also gave their impact around the world. This is not a new idea either as the art of lampworking has been present for thousands of years and some interesting antique beads have been discovered. However, as American and other glass workers continually challenge the techniques, more and more handmade glass art bead designs turn up.

I live in Central Washington State and we generally have great weather here in Central Washington. Summers are warm and sunny and spring is just right. We usually have a little snow in the winter although this year it was quite cold. Our horses did NOT appreciate it and the cat just came inside and said forget it out there!

My name is Sylvia Holtman and I and my son are the Artisans who produce the handcrafted products for Sylcraft Beads, Jewelry and Gifts. We live in Central Washington State.
I personally, have been making my handmade lampwork glass beads since 1997. This was an addition to the gemstone wire jewelry that I had making before. I also enjoy making handcrafted and/or personalized dog collars, cat collars and other products for animals as well as American Girl doll clothes and have been sewing since I was in high school. A LONG time LOL.
I've taken lampwork classes over the years from some of the big names in Lampworking and I now give lampwork bead classes and wire jewelry classes.

Hi Sylvia
I got the butterflies yesterday - I confess though your butterflies are gorgeous - although I knew they would be - so much so that I've already used one in a Necklace, that I was almost finished with I just needed something to set it off and your butterfly did the trick. I'm totally delighted with them.
