I have bought 4 Seiko/Citizen watches from Thorton and Sons and took them in to have them repaired. I received them back where the crystals were not changed, the bands were still broken and only the batteries had been replaced. I left them with my daughter in law and when she sent them back to me I couldn't believe the poor service I had received.
The man at the counter acted like he couldn't be bothered with such trivial service as replacing batteries and fixing what was broke. I will never do business with them again. I bought the four watches from them over the years before they moved to the outlet stores. Soooo disappointed. I'll find another jeweler.

If you're thinking about fine jewelry to gift yourself or others, Thornton is the perfect way to shop small shop local. They've been providing excellent service and high quality merchandise for over 45 years in our community. Aside from typical services like battery replacements, they have an amazing selection of unique settings of diamonds, precious gems, rings, bracelets, and watches. I'm particularly fond of their men's rings by Simon G, their vast selection of Citizen Eco-drive watches, and fire opals. They've also invested heavily in the lab-grown diamond space which seems to be big with the younger generation.
The staff is always friendly and really enjoys talking with and educating customers. And they usually offer to professionally clean anything we happen to be wearing at the time. Highly recommend.

We were quoted $1500 to service my husband's watch (Thornton & Sons sent it to SF for service). We were told the battery had been left in the watch too long and had caused damage. We decided not to have the swatch serviced and picked it up. A few months later we took it to a jeweler in Walnut Creek. The Walnut Creek jeweler also sent it out (directly to Cartier) to be serviced and have the battery replaced.
The Walnut Creek Jeweler charged us $443 for the service and replacement of the battery and did not mention any problems with the watch. We have picked up the watch and it's working beautifully. Thornton & Sons quoted us $1,500 and said there was damage to the watch while a high end jeweler in Walnut Creek charged us $443 (plus $100 for shipping to and from Cartier) and did not mention anything about damage. Thornton & Sons wanted to charge us over $1,000 more to service the watch (not including shipping)! We believe in supporting local small businesses and expect that they too would support the community by providing the best or even adequate service.

I DO NOT like leaving 1-star reviews on Yelp. I feel like vindictive people use them to burn businesses. So, I am breaking my usual pattern to give people a real, honest 1-star review. I have been a customer of Thornton & Sons for close to 30 years. I have bought beautiful pieces over the years, so when it was time to get a newer, bigger, better wedding ring 15 years ago I went to Thornton & Sons.
I picked a beautiful ring, which has never given me a moment of trouble. Then, yesterday morning I noticed that a diamond had fallen out of the pave setting. I immediately took the ring off and brought it in to be repaired. The woman that helped me gave it to Thornton himself to look at and about a minute later she returned to me and said, "He declines to repair this ring." WTH?!
I asked why and after a song and dance realized there was no way I would convince the jeweler to even try and fix it. If they won't even offer to try and repair a ring THEY sold, then I will never buy another piece of jewelry from them. I told the woman that and there was zero effort on their part to retain my business. The moral of this story is don't spend your hard earned money at Thornton & Sons. They do not stand by their products and they don't value their customers.

This place is the greatest, they are always ready to help. So far we have cut off a gold bracelet (the cut is smooth and the bracelet still beautiful) they were careful not to cut the engraving on the inside. My wife's wedding set expanded and it looks like new. They just replaced the loop on a pendant my Mother in law gave to my Daughter 20+ years ago, it looks better than new and saved an heirloom.

Came here a couple months ago to get my promised ring resized just a half size down. I walked in and was greeted and told the gentleman what service I needed done. He said okay no worries and started to fill out some paper work for my ring and the resize. I asked him what time I should come back and he said oh it will take about 3 weeks. 3 weeks to just get a ring resized seemed kind of silly to me.
The price he quoted me on was about 40 bucks also. I said oh well thank you anyways for your time. I left and called dongs jewelry repair here in town, dropped my ring off and had it back sized to my fitting in a matter of 2 hours. Disappointing service and wait time they quoted me on when there's other jewelry places in town which did the service that day and half the cost.

I can't say enough about how great our experience was. Jeff was absolutely fantastic. We decided to upgrade my wedding ring for our anniversary. Jeff never pressured us, showed us several different options. He even came in on his day off to accommodate us and show us the different diamonds he ordered for us. I now have an absolutely beautiful ring snd couldn't be happier!

Poor quality & horrible customer service. My husband and I have been married for 4 years and we unfortunately bought his ring at Thornton and Sons. After the first year and a half, the diamonds began to slide out and we requested they fix it. They gave us the hardest time but finally made it right. This morning we saw that the diamonds had completely fallen out and there was glue residue on the inside from where it was "repaired" not even two years ago. It's so sad that we won't even get to keep our first ring as a keepsake.
I wouldn't recommend buying your sentimental pieces here, regardless of the amount of money you spend as they don't back their work and they are extremely difficult to deal with. It's not worth the risk of something so special falling apart.

Hello everyone. I need to share my experience with Thorton and Sons as I have never been treated this way and gave them an opportunity to try to change my opinion. My fiance purchased an engagement ring from Thorton and Sons based on my recommendation as my parents have given them 25 years of business. After I had my ring sized I simply requested my appraisal and paperwork to which they said it would be 6 to 8 weeks to receive the paperwork. (Odd they didn't have it in store?) I finally called them to ask why it was taking so long and they then told me they wouldn't give me the paperwork only my finance who was out of town on a fire.
I asked why they never mentioned this before and kept me strung along waiting. I now know why they didn't want to give me the paperwork. The quality of the stone isn't what they told my fiance. I got an appraisal and it's value is 2k less than he paid! PRETTY FREAKING LOW FOR A SUPPOSEDLY REPUTABLE JEWELER. Never buying anything from them again!

My husband believes in supporting local businesses so for the last 20 + years he's purchased my jewelry from Thornton and Sons. I took my watch in a couple of days ago to get a new battery installed. When I got home I discovered several scratches on the back and the back plate wasn't put back on correctly. When I spoke to them about it today they couldn't have cared less and was actually a bit rude.
They said I signed a piece of paper saying they weren't liable for any damages (because when using metal tools on a metal backing mistakes can happen). Had they disclosed this in the beginning I would have sent the watch directly to The manufacture for the battery change. It's disappointing to be so loyal to a business and get treated so poorly. We won't be back!

I went into Thornton & Sons last week with my Mom. I am looking for a wedding band and asked if they carried any enhancers. The woman helping me, middle-aged/causation, was extremely rude. She was very loud and wasn't really speaking to me but the whole entire store. She was very condescending and when I was explaining to her the reason I wanted an enhancer she said "Yeah I know I saw your ring" which is funny because she never asked to look at it.
She was pretty much yelling at me saying no one wears enhancers anymore but honestly, that's not her business what kind of ring I wanted. She should have been more focused on a sale than being rude to me. I will NOT be returning to this store, which is unfortunate because I like to shop local.

Julie is the downfall of this store. So disappointed as I've purchased several small pieces over the year and usually deal with 2 different males (one of which identified himself as the owner). She has a way for coming across snarky and condescending and even suggests going to another jeweler. She clearly is an unhappy human. I will never enter this establishment again and will do everything in my power to ensure a negative impression is expressed onto anyone that will listen. I will now go pay more for services and jewelry just to never give this company my money. Poor poor poor service and a disgrace to the local community.

This is probably a pretty nice jewelry store with cool jewelry BUT the service could be better. I found the sales staff to be rather short and dismissive. For example just out of conversation I told the guy that I brought my wife to get her ring checked out. He says, " there u go". What the heck is that suppose to mean? Just tell me u don't care. Anyway I just think if u work with people u should be a people person.

I went in to Thornton and sons to look at getting an engagement ring for my GF. I went with my best friend right after we left them gym. Not only was our salesperson "Anna",o r should I say lack of salesperson, very judgemental after not being able to find the perfect ring I thought my Gf would love she then walked me to the clearance section. All I felt the whole time while in the store was the feeling of being judge just because my appearance.
All I wanted was to see if I could find that "one" ring she would love. I would have loved to purchase a ring to purpose but her unprofessionalism was an instant mood kill to what is supposed to be a special moment. If my sales person wasn't so judgemental maybe I would have told her I just sold both of my homes and had well over 50k to buy the ring and would have told her I am a finance manager and make over 10k a month. I would never recommend this store to anyone looking to have that special moment of finding the perfect ring.

I have always had good service until today. I went to pick up my ring and when I showed my ID the women gasped and said loudly " my God that's an old picture!" The look on my face made her realize I was not pleased and she responded " your hair is different ". Are you out of your mind! When the ring I had sized did not fit comfortably on the finger I sized it for her response was " did you have a lot of salt yesterday ". Really?
I have never met this woman before. I said I have to get out of here and signed and left. I held my tongue before I said what I wanted to say but I'm obviously annoyed. I really don't need it pointed out that I am older than my drivers license. just rude. They need to keep in mind that they do not know what people are going through. be kind, it's not that hard. If I go back I know who to avoid.

Wasn't thinking clearly after a fun New Year's night out when we came home to the cabin we rented and hopped in the *highly chlorinated* hot tub. When I woke the next morning, I didn't feel great and it certainly didn't help that when I looked down at my silver rings and bracelet to see they were suddenly all BLACK! I took them into Thornton & Sons desperately hoping someone could magically turn my gross now pewter-looking rings back to their original silver glory. Anna welcomed me with a smile and within 5 minutes and no charge, she gifted me back my beloved jewelry looking all shiny and new! So happy to have had her help and thankful for her service and quick cleaning magic!

I've come here on many occasions and today I brought in my wife's watch for a battery. I bought it for her many years ago at their former store in Dixon. The service I received was way above ordinary today. As I text this I am recalling all the other times I have come here and without a doubt, I have always been treated with exceptional service. Great store!

My boyfriend comes here to get charms for my Pandora bracelet. The service is always amazing and so friendly! They have a wide selection of charms to choose from, but I'm sad that they don't get regular shipments or order specific charms. After getting two new charms, they cleaned my bracelet and it looked better than ever!
