Born in the eye of a storm, the original DAN'S PAWN was in the former "Bell Tackle" building on Beck Ave (see B&W photo). They renovated this run-down structure in the summer of '95 making them one of the early pioneers of revitalization for the St Andrews commercial business district (CBD). One week before they were set to open, Hurricane Opal struck (Category 2) and the St Andrews central business district was ravaged. Despite being flooded and losing everything; they rebuilt and restocked. We sold 1 store same day to a competitor.
Dan's Pawn serves local Panama City residents who need money quickly and without hassles. We can buy your unwanted gold, silver and platinum, as well as rare coins, objects of art, diamond jewelry, and much more. Or we can make you a pawn loan using your merchandise as collateral. We will loan money on virtually anything of value.
Dan's Pawn pays top dollar on fine jewelry if you want to sell it. And this makes sense if it's broken, mismatched or unwanted. But if the jewelry is a precious keepsake or family heirloom, then most people prefer to pawn it. A pawn loan gives you the option to come back, pay principal plus accrued service charges, and pick it up.
Put simply - customers pledge property as collateral, and in return, pawnbrokers lend them money. When customers pay back the loan, their merchandise is returned to them. Pawn loans are made on everything from jewelry to electronics. If the customer elects not to redeem their collateral, there is no credit consequence to the borrower and the items are sold at a discount to retail consumers.

This place is usually great. Tonight, however, was not a great experience. I have worked in IT for 25 years. Everything from help desk to system administration. I recently aquired a bunch of left over IT equipment from a company that closed down. Instead of selling it myself online I have been taking a few things to the pawn shop just for a quick sell, not worried about top dollar.
Never had any issues, they even bought a Mid-2010 Macbook pro. Tonight however, I go in with a windows laptop updated from Windows 8 to Windows 10 along with ram upgraded to 16gb, 1tb hdd, and an i7 2.4 ghz. The girl behind the counter took all the information, asked me twice what I would like for it and appeared to be getting ready to purchase it.
She then noticed it had a Windows 8 sticker on it. She turned around and asked the older lady about the sticker (same lady who I had to show how to get system information once) if they could take it. She said no. The explanation was this, "We can not take anything with Windows 8 on it." I advised her, as she had already written down, that it in fact was upgraded to Windows 10.
Her response, "Due to upgrade issues we can't take it." I was so confused. I advised her I did IT work for a living and she replied with "I do this for a living." As if that was enough to explain the lack of expertise in the item in question. What if I had simply removed the Windows 8 sticker? The rep would never have even noticed. I think it was more of not wanting to actually deal with it due to being close to closing time.
Her comment of "Look everyone is coming in now.", when I got to the counter and other people walked in 20 minutes before closing. If it was not that I honestly have no idea what the issue was aside from a sticker. Update: Thanks for the reply. Oddly enough the second computer I brought in was in fact an upgraded WIndows 7 machine with the "Pro Windows" Windows 7 sticker on it.
Which was purchased without issue. Very confusing. Dropping my review score because when I went in with the second computer that Monica, so kindly pointed out in her response, was met with dirty looks from her repeatedly. I had to stand behind one of the columns while being helped to try and not feel uncomfortable. It was very disturbing.

Great pawn shop I can say one of the most friendliest pawn shops I've ever walked into. Kathy was so fast to help me to see what I needed and how she can help me. Mark also was very friendly and helped me with selecting a beautiful gold chain that im going to put on lay-away. Also needed a loan they worked with me the best they can I was super satisfied with the loan there were able to give me. As well Monica was very nice, great environment great people. I love Dan's Pawn Shop! Always a positive experience. I have used several pawn shops in my lifetime and Dan's is by far the best I've had to use. I've always gotten a fair price on whatever I have brought in and have always been treated with respect and the associates are all polite. They're interest rates are great, you don't feel like you're being scalped.
They will also call you a day or two in advance to remind you to pay and pickup on your loan items or pay the interest to extend the loan. Dan's is by far the best pawn shop in town. They have some beautiful jewelry and a great numismatics area too. They have a very nice audio/visual area, tools, &etc. Good hours too

Called Dan's pawn and spoke to Brett about an external 22" Samsung monitor for my PC. I told him that I was leaving and would be there in 15-20 minutes to buy it and asked if he would hold it, he replied yes and I said "great on the way." I arrived at Dan's pawn in exactly 15 minutes and the monitor was on the counter being sold to another customer. I was not impressed with this store but in all fairness, it was my first and only interaction, I won't be back. Their "word" is suspect.

I have visited Dan's many times and, without exception, every visit has been a pleasure. I'm in the construction industry, so I frequent many pawn shops I search of deals on tools, and occasionally to get some emergency cash. Dan's is now the only place I will go around Panama City if I'm in need of a loan. The employees are some of the most professional, helpful, and courteous I have ever encountered at any business, and that's not limited to just pawn shops.
They really go above and beyond to help their customers and are always more than fair. Even after the sale, they stand behind what they sell. When COVID-19 hit, I had a loan come due on my laptop, and there was no way I could pay to renew the loan. I was sure that it was gone along with everything on it. At any other pawn broker, it would have been.
Instead I received a phone call, and they worked with me far beyond my expectations so I could eventually get my computer back. I was over a month overdue at that point. This is the way all businesses should be run. Thanks!

I had called and gotten a quote on a couple items I wanted to sell from Surge(?). When I went in the next day he wasn't there, but Cathy took good care of me and honored the quote I got on the phone. Everyone I dealt with was very personable and genuinely nice. I was selling electronics, so they had to be test the items, but even then I was in and out quick. It was a great experience all around.

I have always had good experiences with Dan's Pawn Shop. I went there this week for a few things and the customer service was great and also Monica helped me out all three times get in and out. Good business and people with many years of loaning and pawning items! Always good to the customers! Thank you to the team

Hands down the best place I have been to Pawn any items. Came to Florida on vacation from Pennsylvania happened to get in a jam and needed money quick. Looked up pawn shops and found myself at Dan's. From the minute I walked in the door I was taken care of! The staff is so friendly and does everything they can to give you the best experience ever!
